Uber is very trendy and can save you a decent amount of money as well. It’s easy to think about the positive aspects of more competition in the taxi industry, but we don’t often think of the bad. Recently, Uber has been linked to several alarming accidents including the death of a six year-old girl. According to the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit, Uber’s policies can leave drivers and passengers in a bind if there are accidents.
There are two possible downsides associated with Uber and these affect both the driver and the passenger. If you are an Uber driver, you’ll want to check with your insurance company to see if you will be covered in an accident while driving your vehicle for profit. On the other hand, if you’re a passenger, you’ll want to be sure the vehicle you are riding in is covered. you are the passenger and you have a right to ask about the driver’s insurance coverage, so don’t be afraid. If the driver doesn’t know or they tell you they aren’t covered, the risk is up to you.
